Delhi University First Cut Off List 2008: Whither now

Writing about hindi blogging, poems, maths, news items, trends and what not...That was me for sometime. So it was quite obvious that I thought of writng about DU admission cut off list as well as many many people might be looking for it. So when I returned home from work I started looking for apt content...but not much. Then I realized..who can write about these admission? After all what is my task? What work I was attending all through the day?

Hey Masijeevi just wake up..I teach in University college, I was attending a briefing for admission process in college..so I got to be the person to write about it :)

Okay!! so if you are looking for DU cut off admission list 2008 then official list will be available at this link. I understand guys are at work and different colleges are sending their lists to university and university is still consolidating the list, You will surely get it by morning. Also note that admission will start only on 27th so you have whole day tomorrow to hop.

1st cut off list is always very deceptive for a simple reason..student apply on centralized form and they can apply to any number of colleges and courses as they please, they end up over-applying and hence 1st list is inflated, leaving students confused. So thumb rule is look for your choice of college and course..always give preference to course over college.

I'll try to make the list available ASAP. Some more posts will follow.

Those in babudom might be feeling the heat of inflation and price rise as much as those out of babudom. The difference is - babus are hoping that pay commission will relieve them a bit...But hold on! Such high inflation is bad news to very prospects of implementation of pay commission. How!! well look at this way... pay commission recommendation are based certain calculations of growth specially of GDP. But that was before this very sorry patch of high price rise. The fact is as per the CPC the raise was recommended considering the high estimates of growth.  Raghvan states:

As regards the Sixth Pay Commission, assuming a real GDP growth rate of 8.5 per cent and an annual inflation rate of 4.5 per cent in 2008-09, the official spokespersons have put the impact at around 0.4 per cent (or Rs 21,215 crore) of the GDP estimated at Rs 53,03,770 crore.

Now everyone knows that these figures have fallen apart, neither the growth figure will match nor the inflation can be expected to come down to 4.5%. In essence it means that after petrol hike and subsidies that some of the state governments declared, it will be impossible for them to replicate the central pay scales...so they are likely to dissuade the center. Raghvan predicts that if center decides to implement now..it may result in states going bankrupt.. some already believe that we are on the verge of financial emergency. So bad patch of economy despite the elections is bad news for babus.

This is remarkable as it suggest the possibility of biological life at some point of time at Mars. Manisha informs the Hindi Blogworld referring to the news item from NASA.

Incredible isn't it. Google dedicate a doodle as shown above.

A Blog on Mathematics

Abhishek kind of put forward a analogy that  states Poetry is Maths..quite not. Why because we are discussing Hindi Blogging here and there even the square root of number of poetry blogs is greater than the square of the number of blogs on Mathematic. :))

Ya!! the fact is Abhishek Ojha's blog Kuchh Log Kuchh Batein is not what its title try to say...it actually is a mathematics blog, quite the Gunakar Mule way..in simple and understandable Hindi. What else can you ask for..Truly specialized blog in Hindi that too from mathematician from IITK, those who ever ventured near  university maths knows IITK is quite a maths Mecca.

In initial posts Abhishek gives account of 'interesting' part of maths, different branches of maths and that (and I hate that) utilitarian part of maths. I hate it because maths is beautiful because it is so, you don't ask a beauty..why are you so beautiful. Don't you ask it to maths as well. Whenever anybody dare ask me the 'use' of literature (or maths) in my staff room, I just pass this moron to someone from commerce department :))

So if you think high peaks of Himalaya, scent of roses and Madhubala are beautiful because they are ..(and yes the order in chaos, infinite series and abstract of geometry)  to be enjoyed, His blog is the place to be at.

Hymenoplast Virgin: The Ugly Way to Patriarchy

Blogosphere in Hindi is getting more and more insightful and it is not just poetrying and recipeying when it comes to blog feminism. Its getting deep..really deep to the very core of patriarchy sometime. Virtue of patriarchy to some extent lies with the idea of women being virgin. Chaste wife who is faithful is core to women occupation. Chokherwali can't miss it. So Sujata questions the new practice of hymenoplasty. As per wiki it is:

Hymenorrhaphy or hymen reconstruction surgery is the surgical restoration of the hymen. The term comes from the Greek words hymen meaning membrane, and raphe meaning suture. It is also known as hymenoplasty, although strictly this term would also include hymenotomy....

....The normal aim is to cause bleeding during post-nuptial intercourse, which in some cultures, mostly Muslim, is a required proof of virginity.

Discourse gets very very well with the comments. especiallwinky since readers did question the very necessity to consider the virginity or chastity as virtue. Understandably one can see the plot of occupying a teritory called women is possible only if it tied to one man. Thoughful discussion, dangerous it becomes once we put it under carpet by terming it a matter of personal choice. "Uninfluenced personal" is nothing, what influence the 'choice' is the question. Virginity is definitely overrated junk that needs to be junked. The practice of hymenolpasty only indicate that far from being junked it is being further rated high. Patriarch deep inside me laughs cunningly.

First Thing First here is the video IU found at YouTube of the Controversial Reverse Sweep that is rocking the cricket world

The shot is making already worried bowlers very uncomfortable. If you are not aware then the fuss is about swap hitting that is about changing grip before a bowler bowls thereby becoming left hander to right hander or vice versa. Some says that it is unfair to bowler because he is not allowed to do it without declaring it batsman and umpire.

Hindi Blogger Bikram Pratap Singh points out that it is not against rules and there is no point asking for similar playing rules for batsman and bowlers. Bikram want Peterson's innovation should be welcome change for cricket. I tend to agree.. it may not be sound cricket but with 20-20 sort of things coming to cricket such innovations are bound to appear. I don't think there is much MCC can do or should do in this case.

Its rumor, speculation, fact..or may be little bit of all. As Hindi Blog Karmchari points out, Government to nullify the ill political effects of steep price rise by implementing the 6th CPC. Group of secretaries in the chairmanship of cabinet Secretary is likely to submit its report to cabinet on 20th of this month. This is probably the last step before implementation unless Government decides to set up Group of Ministers (GOM) which never the less is political body and can submit its recommendation politically fast. It is suggested that Pay Commission can be implemented as early as July 2008 thereby making it possible that Salary paid in August 2008 shall be revised one.

But its not that good as news for those not happy with original report because not much is being changed except a little tempering with grade pay here and there. Armed Forces X-pay is being revised to 2000/-.

So keep your fingers crossed, may be we can beat the price of rice bags a little :)

My official line has always been that celebrity blogs are not blogs theseblogs_pic1 are PR exercises be it Amitabh, Amir or anybody else. But agree that celebrity blogs will be good for Hindi Blogging. We were hoping that Amitabh will start first Hindi celebrity blog but it came from not that tech savvy celebrity...LALU PRASAD YADAV. Ravi informed this latest news to Hindi Blogworld in his latest post.

Lalu is looking forward to act as Neta in SRK movie-

I had told Shahrukh Khan that whenever he is producing a film and needs anyone to do the role of a politician, I am always there. I also assured him that I can do justice to the role, so that a common man is able to relate with a true politician.

Though blog is available in English as well, but can you ever translate Lalu to English..forget it. So to have the real taste of Lalu on net you got to read him in Hindi or still better listen to him in his voice only here.

Tower on a Table

No..No HBR is not a photoblog but I'm so happy about this photo taken at Dilli Haat Pitampura, that I am tempted to share.

Everybody in Maharashtra politics want to behave the Shivsena way... SS do and so do congress. Look at this picture

navvadhu-lay1-copy

Credits first, I got the pic from this place, though original copyright is with Saamna editors, hope they wont mind.

Argument there is that Maha is short tempered, sure they are. I find the pic distatsteful (More because I am straight...Cross dressers are a big Yakk for me) but despite being distatsteful I won't care a damn about it. But the way Congress in Maha reacted, My first reaction is congress there is Shiv-senaised there.

Feminism straight as Jalebi

Rachna is one blogger whose enthusiasm we all admire. When it comes to blog feminism... Like her or hate her but you just can't ignore her. Her Theoretical inadequacies are glaring...fine but theoretical greats with truck load of political correctness can very much be dangerous beings in disguise. One glaring example of the theoretical inadequacy I am talking about is the blog Dal Roti Chawal. The very tagline talk about the "Kitchen Empire" {It goes like... women today are doing very well in all walks of life but it is not implied that we will achieve anything by losing our empire..The empire of kitchen is all ours...} Understandably the team Nari has some problematic to handle...It is no straight analogy. I remember the classical "Rasoi Debate" that once broke out. But then who care about theories ??

So I wasn't surprised, was in fact a bit amused to read (rather watch, its video) the Jalebi Recipe from Manjula (Presented by Lavnaya). I am a great fond of Jalebis, but all, including the popular ones at Apni Dukan, Ghantaghar, surely all these great Jalebis are made by Halwais..male ones. So the the empire, the Rasoi and the feminism is not at all a straight business..its a Jalebi business :))

I will stick to old line...You can't have feminism unless two major forts of patriarchy are demolished..Beauty and Kitchen.

Autobio-notes from Fellow Bloggers

Ajit Wadnerkar is no nonsense blogger. Every blog post of his is an investment in the future. His lexicology ideas are gems and every issue he find worthy of writing or commenting is carefully chosen. Thankfully he chose wordsmithy instead of Stock market, he otherwise is so wise in speculating the future :). Read his Bakalamkhud series and all the testimonials I gave are proved. The very conception of the idea of inviting fellow Bloggers to write on their lives at Ajit's blog is wonderful. None of these Bloggers might have written the same stuff at their own blogs so full credit to Ajit for extracting such nice biographical details..Reading all these memoirs independently is a social history chronicle in itself. I'll write some independent posts on reading these autobiographical posts, for now here is the list as provided at Shabdon ka Safar

    Nokia N78 Launched in India

Agree this one is off beat post. I am pre empting the coming posts :). Launch on N78 is one news I want to see Hindi Bloggers writing about..for sake of diversification at least.

nokia Fine!! So Finnish giant Nokia launched this new handset in India. With 2.4 inch screen, the phone comes packed with 70 MB onboard storage capacity, FM radio, 3.2 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, MP3 player and GPS system with pre-loaded Nokia maps of eight cities with points of interest across 52 categories including bars, restaurants, cafes and hotels. Available in two colours including cocoa brown and lagoon blue, the phone is expected to retail for approximately Rs 19,999.

Since the phone offer cam with location tagger, it is just right for phone blogging..I inly hope to be able to earn 20K by adsense some day to buy one :)

Sarkar Raj is Comeback Movie for RamGopal Verma

Sarkar Raj is out and is critical for Ram Gopal Verma, after a flop Hat Trick as Manmeet Singh Points out in review at his blog on WebDuniya. sarkar_raj Going by the opinion of Singh the Movie is 'Lajwab', even if it seen in sequel to Sarkar I, it is better made.

Honestly I ma not a movie freak, writing this blog primarily because I when I tried to look at Hindi Stuff on this movie I realised on happy note that now a lot of professional portals are writing in Hindi atleast on commercially viable topics. It gives a lot of elbow space to Hindi Bloggers as they can write what they want rather then putting their efforts to bridge some gap in ought to be written and being written, market is taking care of itself now. Besides I am also skeptical whether blogs like Manmeet's is there on aggregators..I mean the ones at WebDuniya and Adda like platforms..If they are..very good, if not better because it mean that Hindi blogs can now survive without aggregators.

Coming back to movie...Singh is all praise for Abhishek, this time for a change small B is being praised for his work..So go and watch SR.

In another relevant post Girindra informs the blog world about grand première of Sarkar raj at iifa awards.

Support to Inji pouring from Hindi Blogosphere as well

Debashish brought the case of content theft cum cyber stalking to Hindi Blogosphere through this post at Global Voices. Most of you have already heard or read about it, for others its a case of simple copy and paste. What is the difference is..as Debuda points out..its chori and seenajori. These goons at Kerala dot com first did what appears to be an open and shut case of content copying from blogs. But when someone pointed out she was threatened and stalking began. It is still on. Shame...Shame.

Blogger who is facing these goons is Inji. In latest post at her blog she gives an account of the threatening mails she is receiving from this group which claims to be an old player in cyber industry. Inji after a short research finds out that apart from running porn sites this group is also in the business of donating the orphanages nice diversification. It is heartening to note the support from all walks to Inji. Thanks to Debashish now Hindi Bloggers are pasting their token of support to Inji. Kakesh has written a whole post on the issue. Manisha of Achchi Baat has this to say:

    Dear Inji,
I am also gone thru same experience. around 5-6 bloggers are copying content from mt blog
sarkari-naukri.blogspot.com and they even started blaming in return.
I think Indian blogsphere is full of people who are copying content from others site and blogs.
    I am with you.
    Manisha

So if you are concerned send your comments to Inji's Blog. I find the case important also because it concerned the non English Indian blog world.

Ajay Brahamatmaj in the latest post at Chavanni Chap brings an interview with none other than Aishwarya Bachchan. The beauty of this interview is the delicate handling the professional and personal of the celebrity. aish The actress, the daughter, daughter in law and the Wife is reflected with full impact, yet the very feminine self is untouched. Kudos to Ajay for this nice interview.

Not that Ajay leaves Aish unprovoked... soe doubt is surely casted by refering the work in initial movies of Aish as chance granted but Aish is as sharp as she is beautiful to notice and refute it.

Yet the big point of the interview is feel of Aishwarya Rai's relationship with big big family members. Amitabh, the Jaya and the Abhishek... and surely big she is as well... so many bigs at the same dining table atleast once a day as a matter of rule. Big eg sailing smooth. And surely as Hindi Blogger I am happy to hear that they are supposed to talk Hindi at the daily great meal.

I'm Back with School (Time) Games

Never claimed that I'm die hard regular blogger, never been. But skipped blogging for eight days that's unusual for me. It was vacationing...driving, trekking and familying :). Nice (and not so nice) days. Laptop was with me so was Tata Indicom plug in modem, that did not work..so no blogging. But now I am back.

Stumbled upon this post by Vikram Pratap Singh who is a sports journalist, He analyses (though I find the analyses a bit too general and cursory) the sorry picture of Indian school games. Talk passionately about the big infrastructure in other nations at school and college level. Agree!! we need to do more on that front, but my friend don't be that contemptuous about other non international school time games like hide and seek...they don't get you medals but memories they etch do matter.

Why Ghosts can Liquidate Indo-US Nuclear Deal

Young Blogger Soumya is learning to drive Hero Puch (not seen it for quite sometime..probbaly discontinued here in Delhi). Soumya is learning to add links in her posts. Whole blog world is closely watching what she is doing next...nice stuff.

In her last post Somya asked innocently are some ghosts out there? And then she went on to tell..they are. Ghosts are busy these days because thier prime work profile is to run coolers for Soumya's aunt. We all were amused. Such nice ghosts...hey why don't they fight elections...Oh!! No they can't after are they are so nice and nice people don't fight elections. Nice ones run Soumya's aunt's cooler :)

Nobody is scarred of these ghosts who run coolers, everyone is happy with living these ghosts, but yes George Bush should be a worried man. If these ghosts kept running coolers without electricity there will be no energy crisis hence no Indo-US Nuclear Deal. So Ghosts can liquidate the deal.

Gattu Ajay Brahamatmaj in his latest review of Ghatothkach is direct and blunt. This new venture by a Srniwas fails on most account. The mythological character of Ghatothkach who was son of Bhima and Hidimba in Mahabharata is drawn as more of a cartoon rather then mythological character of valour and power. Ajay is of the opinion that animation movie brings forward the reality of animation boom. Movie makes fun of the character and turns it into a carricature of otherwise a very potential character. Review do not analyse the technical performance and effect but it can be assumed that movie is unlikely to do well among children.

    Two Stars I guess.
