Blog feminism is not new to Hindi blogosphere, its here for some time now. To talk numbers we can say it is at least one year old. Chokherbali which switched to its custom domain recently is now one year old. All these days Chokherbali some 38 women and men were talking and taking virtually everyone but virtually only. There were couple of print mentions, stories and cover stories but Chokherbali themselves worked offline. On its anniversary they came out for real test, and what a test it was. They took bigmouth Madhu Kishwar head on, who did not disappointed anyone. In her polemical best she dared the whole house without mincing words to put the records straight. Another interesting part was absolute absence of Hindi Massabs from the dice. Anamika and Sukrita Paul Kumar are English teachers at University of Delhi  Rajkishore is Journalist while Madhu is well… well… well activists, feminist and journalist all rolled in one.

A lot of heat is generated in Student Activity Centre of DU on 6th Feb, keep watching.

It probably is not related to recently passed IT Act (amendment) 2006 but Dinesh Dwivedi has informed the Hindi Blog world that if anonymity bothers a sufferer then s/he can approach the court and service providers are law bound to reveal the identity of culprit and then as it is said the law will take its own course.

I realised that I am getting really lazy here on this blog. So to set it in order I am adding something that will be very helpful (to me). It is self promotion :)) So while continue to report Hindi Blogosphere, I’ll make it a point to give intro to my own Hindi posts as well.

Today I expressed my views of new tectile footpaths of Delhi. Something that Delhi Metro introduced in a big way by making all its stations and coaches dsabled friendly, now MCD has waken itself up.

The headturners across the street pays heavily to be one. The mushrooming beauty parlours carry out several processes like waxing, threading etc on willing bodies, presumably human. But this willingness is more social than voluntary. Consider a twelve year old girl pushed to parlour for a painful procedure called waxing. Molten sugar is spread on the skin and then it is pulled suddenly causing unnecessary pain. But why? compliance...sir compliance. Compliance to the expectation that girls should learn to be beautiful, for beauty is the only insurance for attention and 'care' of menfolks.

Neelima's post on pain in parlours is important as it points to deep socialization of women, that they no more need any push from men. Their socialization prepares them so efficiently that they not only queue themselves at parlours for painful procedures but also train new ones from their species to learn to bear the pain.

You don't expect anything different, do you. Condom may be a simple latex balloon but it is no less than bomb when it comes to the 'sanskari' Hindi intelligentsia. Take the post from Neeshoo at Media Vyuh. Neeshoo is too embarrassed to hear the Condom word. The whole sanskari mindset is threatened. We don't say much..while I agree to the conclusion as Anshumali puts that market is intruding into the personally space little bit too much but Condom ringtone is not the reason thereof. Very purpose of removing the taboo makes it a necessary that C word be spoken aloud.

BTW I just don't understand that if Savita is a behenji who will embarrassed hearing the condom word, why will she install it in her phone at all. Neeshoo fails to explain that Savita should learn switching the phone off when she is in conference. Very adjective that 'serious matter' was under discussion (with people who don't know phone etiquettes) underlines that the writer believes that issues of condom, AIDS, sex, VD, STD and other health issues are non-serious, mundane junk.

Can a traffic jam be a good topic for blog post, it can very well be. Deepti has evoked quite many responses on her account of jams, the DTC way. But even the A/C Cab availing IT guys have their stories, pains and agony.  The 14th August Great Jam of Gurgaon is narrated in detail by Prayas. To me such account are true social history in making. Just decode the class stratification of typically metropolitan structures like Jams. While Deepti gets to her nostalgia of Bhopali rain and Delhi's jam is antidote to it, an obstruction. But to Pryas this jam itself is shade of rain..metro rain. Jam itself is memory rather than hindrance to it.

Blogosphere in Hindi is getting more and more insightful and it is not just poetrying and recipeying when it comes to blog feminism. Its getting deep..really deep to the very core of patriarchy sometime. Virtue of patriarchy to some extent lies with the idea of women being virgin. Chaste wife who is faithful is core to women occupation. Chokherwali can't miss it. So Sujata questions the new practice of hymenoplasty. As per wiki it is:

Hymenorrhaphy or hymen reconstruction surgery is the surgical restoration of the hymen. The term comes from the Greek words hymen meaning membrane, and raphe meaning suture. It is also known as hymenoplasty, although strictly this term would also include hymenotomy....

....The normal aim is to cause bleeding during post-nuptial intercourse, which in some cultures, mostly Muslim, is a required proof of virginity.

Discourse gets very very well with the comments. especially since readers did question the very necessity to consider the virginity or chastity as virtue. Understandably one can see the plot of occupying a teritory called women is possible only if it tied to one man. Thoughful discussion, dangerous it becomes once we put it under carpet by terming it a matter of personal choice. "Uninfluenced personal" is nothing, what influence the 'choice' is the question. Virginity is definitely overrated junk that needs to be junked. The practice of hymenolpasty only indicate that far from being junked it is being further rated high. Patriarch deep inside me laughs cunningly.

Rachna is one blogger whose enthusiasm we all admire. When it comes to blog feminism... Like her or hate her but you just can't ignore her. Her Theoretical inadequacies are glaring...fine but theoretical greats with truck load of political correctness can very much be dangerous beings in disguise. One glaring example of the theoretical inadequacy I am talking about is the blog Dal Roti Chawal. The very tagline talk about the "Kitchen Empire" {It goes like... women today are doing very well in all walks of life but it is not implied that we will achieve anything by losing our empire..The empire of kitchen is all ours...} Understandably the team Nari has some problematic to handle...It is no straight analogy. I remember the classical "Rasoi Debate" that once broke out. But then who care about theories ??

So I wasn't surprised, was in fact a bit amused to read (rather watch, its video) the Jalebi Recipe from Manjula (Presented by Lavnaya). I am a great fond of Jalebis, but all, including the popular ones at Apni Dukan, Ghantaghar, surely all these great Jalebis are made by Halwais..male ones. So the the empire, the Rasoi and the feminism is not at all a straight business..its a Jalebi business :))

I will stick to old line...You can't have feminism unless two major forts of patriarchy are demolished..Beauty and Kitchen.
